| You may wonder...where do I start? I can't tell you the BEST way to go about building your own home, I can only tell you how I did it and tell you that it worked. I did a lot of research-reading books and talking to so many people that have built their own homes. Knowledge is so powerful-if you can learn one thing from every person you talk to then you will be so much farther ahead. This was our first home we ever built and we did it in 7 months and came in right on budget. Our bank gave us 12 months on our construction loan and since we finished early that meant a big chunk of savings on interest. When you do a construction loan the bank figures how much you will need added to your loan to make all the interest payments on your loan while you are building so that dont have to make those payments so when you finish ahead of schedule you save interest on the remaining months. Scheduling your subcontractors is a huge factor in this whole scenario-keep them on track and you will stay within your time line. |
